Gravid girl arching back? Help please

ilovemylizard Jan 22, 2008 05:17 AM

I walked in the snake room tonight and saw my gravid female in a very odd position, she has the last half of her body 'arched' in two places, like she were laying on invisible bumps...

I don't know if I am making sense, but you can see in the photos what I am talking about...there is another 'arch' in her back nearer to her tail...

I'm just concerned because she has been doing this for several hours now...it's not a food bump--she hasn't been fed...I touched her to see if she would relax, she creeps forward but the arch remains...

I'm really worried because it is raining hard here in Long Beach...and she is not due for another month at least...

Is it possible something is wrong with the babies and she is going to miscarry? Has anyone seen a gravid female 'arch' like this?

More pics from just a moment ago...she moved in the cage, but looks like a bridge over a river right now...just holds that position for a while, then moves and arches in different places...I have no idea...

I looked back at my record book for her just out of curiosity...back in August 2007 a young Kahl albino male was breeding her hard...but I never saw any swelling or other evidence of success...I just figured he didn't get the job done...and after Roswell was born, I removed the albino and put Roswell's dad in with her...

I'm wondering now if the albino was successful...she shed last year around September 18th...today would be about four months...

Looks like she's moving something around. Muscular constrictions/contractions. I don't have enough experience/knowledge to know what's up. Could be labor, I guess.
I would mark those humps with a small piece of masking tape, and see if they move over time.
Those sure are some pretty boas though. I really really do like that pattern and color.
We're all hoping for a good outcome, no doubt about that.
