iquana been acting strange

sdgam2005 Jan 22, 2008 09:27 AM

my female iguana, she is acting kind of strange was wondering if any one could listen to her symptoms and tell me if she is sick. She is not eating normal she nibbles a bit that about all she is eating, also she bobbs her head when you get close to touching her like she dont want bothered she is still active last night she diappeared for a while and we couldnt find her she knows how to get in and out of her cage by her self. We brought another Iguana into the house hold over a month and a half ago and they seem to get along fine I found one little mite on her a few weeks ago a red one, have treated her and have not seen any since I check her daily for them. She has a pretty good diet. I feed her collard greens, green beans, carrots, some fruits she is a bit picky with fruits but she likes strawberries and likes oranges. her room stays pretty; warm I don't think that is the problem. I keep the two iguana separated in different areas. put them together once in a while. the new iguana is very aggresive i have rescued it from a house hold where it was not taken care of very well thats where lizzy got the mites. and the new one bites and wipps constantly i am very slowly taming it going to be a long process, pretty sure she is not sheeding, her skin is turning a bit orange so was thinking that she may be in heat. She is about 4years old the new one is a year old but not sure if its male or female too young to tell.I think that is all please help out. sorry about the book!!!! lol

hi sdgam2005 i can definitely tell you the signs of breeding season. 1. there mood change can be very nasty to being very lovey back to nasty though out the season which can last 8 to 12 weeks depending on your ig. 2. there eating will go to eating normal amount and slowly go down to nothing near end of breeding do to eggs taking to much room. 3.color change will turn orange graduly might not notice how much it is near head there legs and very little on back.3.she will stop shedding and will not start again untill she lays eggs.4.she does not need a male around to lay eggs they will lay them around the same time every yr. its a good idea to keep igs separated even before breeding season you never can tell what will happen at any age and its not a good idea to have baby igs running around when there are so many now who need good homes. being 4yrs old has she layed before? and fruits 1x a week is good. talk about book lol hope this helps iggirl1
