Still no breeding going on in SOCAL ?

insomthegreat Jan 22, 2008 03:44 PM

I still have seen no breeding going on between my male or any of my females. I have tried misting and placing him in the tub after a shed but still nothing. He is now 775 grams and not putting in any work. He does eat whenever he is offered food. The females have almost all stopped eating. When ever I open the tub he is either curled up on the opposite side of the female or he is laying in the middle of them but no lock up. Heres my stats...
Females in their third winter.
1.2300g
2.1800g
3.1900g
4.1600g
5.1500g
Male is a early 07
1.775g
Only thing I haven't tried is combat but I wont do that without a quarantine of another male for 2 months.

If he was going to breed wouldn't he have started by now or what?
Please no more post about your 300g male thats getting the job done. lol

Even with the weight an early 07 might just not have developed enough to breed.

The general ruls is a male at or above 800g and 1.5 years old (2nd winter) will breed. Your male is just shy of that weightwise and has probably another 7-8 months to go yet for age.

While several people get males to breed before this it's not a guarantee. It's more of a gamble. Whereas I look at males that are 1.5 years old and 800g as pretty close to a sure thing.

I wouldn't be discouraged though. Keep rotating him through and see if he breeds late season for you. If not I'm sure he'll be a go-getter for you next year.

Best of luck!

You probably have a maturity issue - my mojo is also an 07 and the smallest guy I'm breeding this season - he's kind of hit or miss - but then again my mid 06 1200 gram cinny didn't start breeding until last week - turns out he's a chubby chaser - won't lock with a 2000 gram pastel but is knockin it out left and right with my 3000 gram girlies.

Anyway, with these storms lined up for the next few days we should be getting some good breeding weather - just keep trying him. If all else fails dance naked to the ball gods - or call JAS and ask for his secrets.

Good luck.

I already did all my breeding. Just give the male some more time, and try again in another couple months. Has he stopped feeding on his own?

Don't stress over it too much, and every once in a while toss him in with a girl to see if it takes. You'll get eggs when you get eggs, and not one moment before the snakes decide they want to!

I am in Temecula, and having a good breeding year so far. The Sulfur Mojave male is really going to town! Sable male, Ghost male, Cinn male, and a few more. My snake room has all the heat lamps (boas) and rack heat on still, with an ambient room temp of no less than 79 degrees.
