*help* young mole king ingests bedding

jfeeleyjr Jan 22, 2008 11:52 PM

I have a young Mole Kingsnake(about 11 inches long, a year and 4 months old) and I went to remove him in order to clean his enclosure. I noticed he was opaque and the next thing I knew he went to stike me and he got three very small peices of aspen bedding in his mouth. He held his mouth open for a few moments then closed and looked as if he might try to swallow. I removed him and gently with feeding forceps i removed the two larger peices, but I think he may have swallowed a small piece. The piece was extremely small however I'm worried that it may cause some digestive problems. Is it possible that he will be able to pass a small piece of aspen? for size comparision it was roughly the size of maybe his eye...or slightly smaller.

thank you.

I've had snakes swallow very large pieces of substrate
and do just fine.

He should be fine. I've seen snakes injest much larger pieces of substrate and come out fine.

Young snakes can easily dessicate when in shed. Ingesting substrate will magnify the problem. I would definately soak it for a day or so.J
