When do mice start biting?

teaspoon Jan 23, 2008 02:51 PM

I have a mouse(a wild mouse) that had four babies. I was wondering when they are big enough to bite a snake. I have a stubborn baby boa that will not eat F/T and don't want to risk it getting bitten.

I believe they are capable of biting at about the time they become hoppers. If they have teeth, they can use them.

More important to me was your statement....
"I have a mouse(a wild mouse) that had four babies."

IMO it's common practice to NOT use wild rodents for food. Thay can come with a variety of parasites and/or diseases. IMO not worth the minimal cost savings!!!

i really wouldnt worry about the mouse hurting your Boa 90% of the time the mouse head is not touching the snake.
observe the strike and if you see the mouse biting the snake put a pencil or stick of wood in the mouses teeth. constictors subdue their prey pretty quick
