Shawn's Rainbow Pics

flavor Jan 23, 2008 09:07 PM

Here are the pics Shawn sent. The quality isn't the best but from what I can see, they don't look like any of the anerys (baby or adult) that I've seen. So, are there two different snakes in the pics? One kind of looks a little darker than the other. Neither look as dark as my anery. It's hard to tell exactly what color they are from the pictures. In some areas they look a little rosy, in others, gray. Very unusual looking snakes. What was their background again? Siblings? Were there more like this in the clutch? Please keep us posted. Best of luck with your gravid female. Watch out for Dave, he has a way of making sure any and all genes of any new lineage of any odd looking BRBs end up in his wicked hands. I think it's all part of his plan to take over the world

Thanks for posting those Mike!

PBM Jan 23, 2008 10:18 PM

In the pics, the crescents look pretty much black. In person there simply is no black. Hopefully Shawn will get some better pics, but I think it will be hard to get a true color representation from any pic. Get on it Shawn!!! LOL, later

There is on posted in the classified other boas!Atleast last time i looke today there was lol

PBM Jan 24, 2008 07:12 PM

It's his first season breeding, so hopefully that goes well. To back him up, I'll do some of the original pairings from offspring of a female I have that produced the hypo Kevin Hanley produced a while back. The last time I did that breeding, I did produce a hypo, but it had a fairly severe kink just below the head, and it died. I took some time off the Dumerils, simply because I was getting a lot more babies than I could sell. Figured I might as well start breeding them again if I'm going to spend the time and money on them. The 2 females up now, look very similar, but none of mine have/had that severe of a pattern anamoly. Definitely not as strong at this point as the hypo BRBs. Take care

There are hypo Dums, I saw them at the San Jose show, pretty cool looking!!!

I believe they are in the ads right now.

Hypo BRB would be nice also

Interesting looking pair, could this possibly be a cross? Maybe with a CRB? That is just what it reminds me of, anyway.

Well i hope not becouse when i got them they pretty much looked like brazilians, sold as brazilians but color has faded with time

flavor Jan 24, 2008 08:22 AM

Aubrey has a good point. The color really does remind me of Columbians. Also, the animals look a little smaller that breeder-sized Brazilians. How big / old are they? One more thing - On Jeff's website, he notes that Brazilians have 47-51 rows of scales midbody. I don't know what the scale count is on Columbians but a count from your animals would be intersting. O.K, sorry, one last thing - If they're hybrids what does everyone tink the babies will look like? Will they look like mom and dad? Will they look more like one subspecies that the other? Will the clutch contain a mix of "Brazilians", "Columbians", and "Other"

Going back to the seller / breeder and pumping for as much info as you can might also help. Sometimes, no information at all speaks volumes.

Still wishing the best,

the female is about 5.5-6ft and the male is about4.5-5ft.Scale count is good for a brazilian but then again i don't really know much about columbians!Well the male has bred this female and a normal female so i guess it is all a waiting game but i got them around the 1yr old mark and like i said they deff looked brazilian minus having any black and just have changed to this over the years so we shall see!

waspinator421 Jan 25, 2008 02:42 AM

If they are a cross, then to me it would make sense that the color faded with time. Baby CRBs have a distinct pattern that almost fades completely to adults. Having Brazilian in the blood would seem to hold the pattern around.

Who knows, though... it's just a thought. They are very nice looking whatever they are, lol.

So anyway i will hang tight and see what happens and keep everyone posted.By the way this is my first year breeding brazilians and i can't seem to find estimated days to lay after shed?Anyone is it the same as typical boa's

rainbowsrus Jan 24, 2008 10:36 AM

We've been working on that, my average last year was 132 with a range of 125 - 135 at 80ish degrees. Mike was a bit warmer and had a little faster gestation times. Don't remember off the top of my head what his numbers were.
