OT loss

WolfenWarrior Jan 24, 2008 01:54 PM

A couple days ago I heard noises coming from one of my snake bins. On closer inspection it was my baby high white reverse okeetee, Gaz. She was thrashing around violently and gasping for breath. She had been perfectly healthy before that, growing quickly, and had even eaten out of my hand the night before. I had no idea what to do, and within minutes she had died in my hands. It was so sudden, I don't know what could have happened. None of the other snakes show any ill signs. Unfortunately I cannot afford to get a necropsy done at this time, so I may never know what happened. The most I can say is that one of my favorite pets has gone far before her time.

RIP Gaz...

And the worst part is you had to experience the actual death, I'd think it better to find them gone then going!

So sorry for your loss!!

I remember the day you got that little girl... you were so happy! Seeing her go was so sad, and I really feel bad for you that your favorite female corn is now gone.

Hopefully Tess will give you lots of fertile eggs this year, and you just might have to keep a few.

I had a beautiful Gray Band die on me the same way. The vet said it was probably a seizure. Sorry about your loss.

Sorry for your loss, Gaz was a great looking snake. The same thing happened to a durango mt. Kingsnake I bought from a breeder about a month ago. I had her for only three days, the third day I awoke to her having a seizure. She had 3 more (that I saw) before I could get her to the vet the next day, she was the same with the open-mouthed breathing and thrashing. The vet said that it was probably a severe resp infection or some sort of virus causing the seizures and thought it would be best to put her down. I know how you feel, it was so sudden.

Even if you can't go in for a necropsy, make sure that your other snakes are away from where the corn was, or it's cleaned really thoroughly. I'm not sure about the virus thing but better to be safe than sorry.
