You need to get some photo software that allows you to add a watermark AND save it with the watermark permanently attached, NOT some sort of overlay that could be peeled away by anyone with the same software. Of course that won't stop a pro from photoshopping out the watermark, just make it a LOT harder.
I need to do the same but have not gotten around to it!!
A lot of folks on the forums will save the occasional pic, some lots. Very few in my experience actually use them for anything other than personal use or reposting.

Have you tried watermarking them?

You could put each of your animals on your face, and then take pictures of them. That would probably deter most people from stealing your pictures. I'll bet you didn't think of that.
Or if that does not sound good, you could insert your name, business name or logo onto each of your images in such a way as to make it really difficult to crop around it.
Either way should work. Good luck young man!

heh heh. Reminds me of the old trick to keep one's siblings out of, say, a serving of pudding you're saving in the fridge for later. You spit on it and make sure they see you do it. heh
Is he selling these animals as his or representing them as his?
A lot of people save photos for reference or just to look at later. Is that stealing? That varies from person to person I guess. Another thing is you have to make sure that is the person that actually saved the photo from your site or where ever you posted it. The photo could have been posted on another forum and then he saved it and showed it elsewhere. A chain of showing and saving I guess.
If you don't want people to save your photos then there are two things you can do.
1.) Never post a photo on the web again, but that won't help business at all.
2.) There are ways to make it so people can't save photos off your website. I'm not sure what the html codes are for that, but its done on some websites that I see.
theres ways around html

Chris:
I used to have the same problem so I asked my web master to place my logo on all of the photos that show up on my web site. About 97 % of the photos that I have taken for my web site bare my logo. The difference now is that people ask permission to use my photos where before they would just use them. I can't remember ever saying no to that request, but at least those interested have the common curtesy to ask.
I hope this helps.

Jeff the picture of myself might work, but them again I ma pretty handsome.
Not to worry I found out the picture was stolen by Matt Tipton/BCI Luke/Mary Ann Boids..
A pic that I sent him to one of his bogus inquires!

That is an excellent point Chris. The folks would be so distracted by your good looks, they might not even see the Boas. Better scrap that idea. How about getting Bigg Mike to sit still for a mess of Boa on the face pictures? LOL

"What's wrong with this pic?" Was I right?
Nothing wrong with that pic except that I don't have my once beautiful blond hair any longer:

Hi Chris,
Watermarking is really the best way to take care of that. I know most people hate watermarking because it can take away from the focus of the pic, but you can make subtle ones that aren't distracting while still being effective.
as an example, I grabbed a pic of one of yours and overlaid it with the snake design that you have on your website. Its subtle, but effective. It can't be easily erased because it's overlapping some part of the animal, and it doesn't detract from the main focus.

hope that helps; its a shame we even have to do things like this.
Jon
it would still be very easy to take that watermark out in Photoshop. You'd need to cover more of the snake for that to work.
