why does it seem like they are extreamly rare in tuolumne co. i know they are more nocternal than the banded kings but i have looked even in the higher elevations and found everything possible except the mountian king, are they endangered?

Do you know what elevation to look at? Do you know which slope (north, south , east ,west) to look at. Do you know what habitat to look at and what time of year to look?

Or are you just wandering around the seirras?

They like to hide in trees that have wasp hives. Find a tree or log that has a wasp hive and bang the tree alot with a stick. You may have to get stung several dozen times before a zonata actually crawls out. This is a joke. Please do not try this unless you are really, really stupid. Even if you're stupid don't try it. Well I guess if you are over 18 and stupid you could try it. But don't, it's not a good idea. The moral of this story is avoid wasps and buy Brian's book. It's much better to spend $45 on the book and keep a safe distance from wasps.

I have found that placing Brians book out near outcropps and returning several days later and flipping them will yield a zonata here and there.Gets expensive but if you need to rest you have something to read.
