It's call IBD.

What are your burms symtoms? Has it been around any other snakes? Why do you think it has IBD?

Sorry for the questions, but we need more information.

Thanks,
Randy

You need to isolate the snake from ALL of your other snakes immediately if you suspect this disease. From what I know it can spread fast and results in death. Boas host the disease and Pythons are affected too but its more fast acting and severe in pythons. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong (it does happen ....but not often but its better to be safe now than loose possibly your entire collection.

If you only have the one snake then you can ignore the above waffle!!

I think he is actually talking about Burm Disease (BD) guys.

There really isn't that much on it other than what the Barkers have said about it. If you go to their website they probably have their article about it on there some where. The article is probably 7 years old or so, but I don't believe there is any new information on it.

As far as I know there is no way to test to see if your burm has it, and a lot of people question if it even exist as there really isn't any hard proof.

I am talking about the burmese disease. I read that green burmese get it mainly and i have an albino green male. He keeps getting R.I. and it seems to be getting more resistent to the anti-biotics. I have anapointment with my vet for next monday and I am going to ask him about it. Hopefully I can get some answers soon, and I can get this ordeal over with. Any info or links to pages w/ info will help. Thanks in advance, Jeremy

I'm not familiar with BD in particular, but this is what I do if it were my snake:

I would make sure I had a basking area of 90 degrees and a cooler side of 80-85. Keep proper humidity levels.

Since many large snakes get RI from a lack of activity, I would make sure the snake has a large enough enclosure to move around properly and a chance to move around outside without contaminating other reptiles.

He has already had many rounds of antibiotics which kills off the friendly bacteria in the gut. I would get a probiotic and either inject the proper amount into his food or insert a capsule deep into the prey's mouth. I feed pre-killed food, so this wouldn't be a problem for me.

In this case, I would step up my disinfecting routine and use either a 10% bleach or chlorhexidine and disinfect all bowls, water dishes, and all surfaces in the cage on a weekly basis. I would also keep one set of utensils for that snake...dishes, sponge, towel for cleaning, etc.

I'm not a vet, nor do I play one on TV. You can discuss these issues with your vet and see if they work for you and snake. Good luck!

I haven't heard about burm disease, I thought he meant IBD. Sorry for the confusion.

I didnt know about it either until the oter night when I was reading one of my burm books and came across it. When I read about it my male had all the symptoms, so Im going to ask my vet about it next week when I go.
