Retained Shed questions.,.,.,.,

Hey All, recently I have been helping a mother and her son take care of an ailing Leo, I couldnt for the life of me figuer out what was going on, i figuered anorexia, but I was going through all the motions of having a sick gecko.

I have realized through soaking the animal, it seems that it has a retained shed on 90% of its body. and that and not eating goes hand and hand.

I was curious as to any tricks out there as to how to get the old skin to loosen up, I have been using the R-zilla shed ease, and that seems to help but i was hoping for other pointers of things to use. obvioulsy i have given the animal and humid hide also.

thanks
Adam

Misting the gecko directly can cause it stress, remember that rain in their world rain means floods and is scary. (My girl still freaks out about low pressure systems, it is sad and cute.)

Shedding products can really help (we like BioMist, but Shed Ease is good too and you're good to go there), also a "sauna" can help. If you have a transport box (or a plastic shoe box type thing from a discounts store) you can soak papertowels in warm water and allow the gecko to walk around in there for a while. Sort of a concentrated moist hide. Don't make it too hot, remember warm to us is hot to them. Let it walk around for 10 minutes or so. You can gently try to help it along, but be very careful, it can be painful and cause skin breakage. We have often used warm water soaked Qtips to gentle "roll" shed off of geckos, this works really well for toes too.

Mostly, old shed is a job of patience and a lot of it. Make sure to give the gecko a day off too, handling everyday is stressful in itself. Here's hoping everything turns out all right, let us know if we can help in any way. Good luck.

She my later reply to another skin suck post above...
Also, for that much stuck shed, an infection is a real possibility. A vet visit may be in order to rule that out.
