Sure! You can keep anything you want together! Why not?
I've got 20 snakes in one cage. Who needs a rack?

I have never had adults eat each other that were kept together in the same cage. EVER! And from what i got here knowbody else has either.

I have had it happen two times. Once with cal kings and once with graybands. Both times were during breeding trials with specimens that are normally kept separate, and both times were females attempting to eat males. Also both times I caught it in time and both times I fed the females four mice in about one week and they breed fine on the next try.
Conversely on dozens of occasions I have found zonatas and pyros of all ages occupying the same crevice or under the same rock; adult pairs, trios, reverse trios, baby pairs and babies with adults. Very commonly I see an adult pair sharing a refuge with one slightly younger male or female. IMHO all species of kings are without a doubt colonial animals. I even believe in bonded colonies of multiple species as I have found zonatas with gophers, garters, striped racers, green racers, nightsnakes, rattlesnakes.
I wonder if my snakes being so close together (same room) and or closely related or partially related that they never ate each other. Most are s. florida king that I have been working with for may generations (NE axanthic, hypo, Peanut Butter, sulfur lavs ect) and almost all of this stock is related in some way from breeding in my facility that started in the last 10-20 years.

I wonder if you kept them togther during the winter months if this would have happened? Maybe that cooling period bonds them in some way.

I bet it did too because we usually try to keep females larger to get more eggs. You know the saying shade in the summer warmth in the winter and you thought that only applied to us.

Yes but with Florida king (which is what I mainly work with) the males get much bigger than the females. Even with a lot less food they grow like they are on steroids or something.

I have also had it happen about 6-8 times over the years. A few times with cal kings and with a few different Thayeri kings. Every time was during breeding season with specimens that are normally kept separate, and everytime were females attempting to eat males.
In most cases, the female had allready bred once or twice, and I was introducing for a 2nd or 3rd time, the female would crawl around the cage with male in chase, she would circle back slowly, come head to head with the male, and POW! She dosn't want to breed anymore. I also caught it in time, everytime.
Also had this happen trying to produce second cluches ( 1st introduction),If she dosen't want to breed again, and can't escape the male, POW!!!
So the theory is, learn to take NO! for the answer, or be chowed upon.LOL
P.S. All the females were fed well, every 3-4 days during breeding season. And donn't keep my kings together, you never know when a male might get the urge.LOL

There's always a chance the "investment" wasn't too good, if only half of it is there one day.

Exactly . With a nice investment of two high white CA kings which everyone loves .
I imagine an easy 1/4 of a million dollars a year once they start breeding.
