Tiny pale baby died...R.I.P. Tiny

Starling Aug 26, 2003 06:15 PM

This little girl hatched out extra small, I kept her in the incubator a couple days, then gave her her own enclosure and would feed a little mealie guts for her to lick off. She was incredibly small. At first I thought she was just small but then I noticed she had a deformity on her front legs, her front feet faced towards her body. When I went to feed her and ckeck up on her today she was dead, apparently she had been trying to shed. I guess she just wasn't strong enough to make it, even with help.

All my other babies hatched healthy and are doing great, this one was a worry from the minute I saw it, due to the size, and that was before I even noticed the defect in the way it walked. This baby was less than half the size of other hatchlings.

He almost looked premature. I thought I had heard somewhere that babies that hatched too early had light color like that. Sorry for your loss.

Starling Aug 26, 2003 08:33 PM

I know what you mean, the color was very strange. I am sad but after I noticed the front legs weren't right I was already worried about what kind of life it would have, and if other things might be wrong internally. So maybe it is for the best, I did all I could for her and she still wasn't strong enough. She's at rest now.

I have a baby just like that, except he hasn't died. He hatched out about July 25th. He's a voracious eater and he is still black and white.

Glad to see yours is well and healthy. Mine was just too incredibly small, and it's front legs weren't right either. Hopefully another time I will hatch one out with similar coloring that is healthy, I'm sure the colors would have been neat...but this one was not meant to be.

Sometimes things like that just happen. Good luck with your other babies.

Lovin' would be easy if your colors were like my dreams...

I know. It helps to think it is "just not meant to be". But it is still sad, I know people here understand, every baby is a little miracle, it hurts to lose one.
