ballpython13 Jan 26, 2008 07:52 PM

hi, ok today I had my female cage above my male cage and my male started going nuts trying to get out so I decided to put the female in with the male in he tried to breed with her the first time and got close I don't know if they breed or not really fast then and the second time he tried and the female got jumpy and would not let him and then he stop??, but this took place within 10mins. What does that mean??...how long should I let the female in?? This is my first time breeding snakes.

Always put the male in the females cage.

It sounds like they didn't breed. It's usual for Cal kings to stay hooked up for a while, Mine have always stayed hooked up 1-6 hours . Check out a few books and sites on breeding, (#1 BE PATIENT), and follow the basics, it should help you a lot.
Good Luck;
