How prominent are the spurs on retics?

RyanTrude May 22, 2003 07:48 PM

Hi. I have an 11 foot normal retic that I've always thought was a male. I've had him for almost 2 and a half years and just today I looked at his spurs and realized he doesn't have any. I've never really paid attention to the size of their spurs and I'm not sure how didtinct theirs even are. I'm just worried that since there are none to see that my male might be a female.

I figured this would be a pretty simple question to get an answer to. I've kept alot of pythons and a few retics. I know alot of others have very noticeable spurs but have never paid attention to retics. Just wanna make sure my male, really is. His tail is very long and thin, not tapered at all. And he's always been relatively small. In my experience, females seem to grow faster and bigger. I know those aren't exact ways to tell but I just have always considered him a male.

On a male, the spurs are supposed to be more prominent...if you aren't seeing any, or they are tiny, you very well might have a female. My retic was missexed by a visual on the spurs. I was told mine was female and it turns out, I have a male. You may want to have yours probed.

I need a female...if yours is female, I'd be thrilled if you sent her to me. LOL!

I have a female tiger if you're looking for one of those. Not just gonna "send her to you" but we could figure something out. There's no way anyone's getting my normal though. I've had him for 2 and a half years and was planning on breeding "him" to my other female tiger. Guess I'll just have to get a male super now and breed him to both females.

But I haven't gotten an answer yet. Send me a note.
