Is anybody tracking the states which are introducing these types of legislation? Notice how they're all worded almost exactly the same? Which specific animal rights group is behind this?

I don't know who wrote that specific one, but API and HSUS are the usual culprits. check out rexano.com for some great info on what's going on, nation wide. (well, I guess the info is more sickening then "great", but you know what I meant!)

Oh my gosh. Do all the county clerks, police and fire departments know about this? Do we really need the police and fire departments to maintain files on every parakeet and goldfish owner. Somebody needs to tell them their jobs are about to get alot funner. I hear they love useless paperwork.
Ma'am we'd like to come in and ask you a few questions, are you now or have you ever been a parakeet owner?

6. Any person issued a permit under this section shall report the presence of a wild animal or animals on his or her premises or otherwise in his or her possession to the clerk of the city, town, or village in which such wild animal or animals are owned, possessed, or harbored. Such report shall be filed annually on a date and in a manner to be determined by the state fire marshal. A separate report shall be filed for each street address at which any such wild animal or animals may be found.

7. The clerk shall forward a copy of such report to:

(1) The Missouri state highway patrol;

(2) Each appropriate county sheriff and municipal police agency having jurisdiction over such wild animal or animals;

(3) Each fire department serving such location; and

(4) Each ambulance or emergency medical service serving such location.

thats exactly the whole point, they are making it so conviluted with paper work that none of those departments are going to want to do it and after someone gets that complete run around by half those depts most likely they will give up and thats what they are hoping for, maybe those of you in the industry now in MO will jump through all those hoops but new people forget it theyll give up and go by a dog or something

seriously Pet Stores, Vet clinics everyone that is in anyway shape or form involved within the pet trade needs to get in on this, if you eliminate all those animals from thye pet trade youll have a serious impact on pet stores vet5 clinics etc

the reality is MO will lose all larger snakes/venomous, ods are if enough people get activated they will back off on alot of the other crap within this but their(politicians/humaniacs) goal is to come out strong and extremly overbearing so everyone freaks out in panic, then they will say "hey you willingly give up venomous and larger snakes and well knock the rest out", its to make people submit in fear its makes their job easier

america is rapidly becoming communist

Darn. I knew it was only a matter of time. The St. Louis Herp Society will fight it as we have done in the past.

Thanks for posting this.

This is a SERIOUS bill! All reptiles except turtles would have to be permitted via the MO Dept of Agriculure and registered locally. Folks in MO need to get orgamized to stop this bill. Has anybody been hurt by reptiles in MO.? Beth Low, the author of the bill needs to be contacted and questioned. HB1847 will create hardships for families and generations that have been raising reptiles as a family hobby. Grandmothers will become criminals. Legislators need to be contacted NOW. Your Rights are being eroded.... ~Bill Watts~

But if the only plan of action is an internet petition then yes they will deem your effort amateurish and you will be steamrolled by those representatives who are backed by animal rights groups. These groups are well funded and most importantly very dedicated to their cause. They win because most people don't/won't put in the same time and energy to oppose them. Talk to the NCARK folks www.ncark.org/ to get an idea on how to effectively oppose such legislation.
