Mouse Care advice

CHPitt Jan 27, 2008 11:56 PM

I am getting a 1.2 trio of mice tomorrow to start producing the greatly needed live pinks I am going to be needing. Anyway anyone have any tips on how i can get them breeding and producing quickly?

Provide a water bottle, constant source of rodent lab block, and leave them alone.

Thank you for your response. Any idea if the local pet stores should sell the lab block?

Unfortunately, most pet stores are in bed with kaytee products, and their lab block is horrid!
It's like compressed cigarette butts.
If they offer you choices, just try to stay away from the kaytee lab block.

dog food works fine, no red dye

Check with a local feed or tractor/farm supply store. Any Purina dealer should be able to order Mazuri 6F rodent block, which should be around $18-$23 for a 50 lb bag. If they stock it, they may also sell it by the lb, though at a higher price per lb.

Definitely avoid the Kaytee brand.

I gotta say that a couple of local stores that deal Purina either can't get or refuse to order less than a pallet of the stuff for me. Kinda sucks.
