'07 mexican hogs

Some new pics of my mexican hogs from Brad Cambers!The female has the darker blotches.Man,I thought eastern hogs were feisty!! l.o.l.! Jeff

Looking good Jeff-you're getting excellent growth on them from the looks of it. They usually achieve peak coloration by about a year or so of age. This year we'll have a couple of females producing, hopefully....

I've seen 30" captives from this population, but the avergae size female is more like these, about 24". I have yet to see a male from there anywhere near as large - I don't have a clue how they compare to other Hogs though.

Story about the one on the bottom, I missed her when she was heavy gravid. I searched high and low for her for about a month, and this is what she looked like the next time I saw her - I was sick.

In 2006, Carl Ackerbauser and I were on 90 between Marathon and Alpine when we came across a HUGE kennerlyi, freshly hit. This animal was easily as large as just about any captive plains hog female I've seen-and keep in mind that one of my own red phase females tops 700 gms!

More heartbreaking were the many eggs spilling out of her and scattered across the pavement....
