cham age?

bloomindaedalus Aug 26, 2003 07:48 PM

Does anybody know details of wild and/or captive lifespan for the various chameleon species?
Are some known to live longer than others in the wild?

I think in the wild they only live about 2-3 years, if that. They are subject to a lot of nasty things.. parasites, and being eaten especially.

okay, thanks. and what about captive longevity?

I've read various ages. I think it is mostly up to the care they receive. Stress is one thing that can shorten lifespan. This is hard to COMPLETELY avoid though, so it varies greatly... Also, feeding, weight of the cham, and any sickness it has/had can affect the age. I've heard anywhere from 3-14 years, lol. 14 is rare, but has happened! This is why so many things are stressed in the husbandry of chams. There are a lot of things that you can bypass, but if you do your cham may not live as long.
