dknorr Jan 28, 2008 10:23 PM

I have 2 pair of cornsnakes that look to me like normals. Just trying to confirm. Thanks for the input.

First (2) look like possibly Hypomelanistics to me the 3rd pic looks like a normal and the last one I am unsure of. A few more pics would help me, but maybe others here know what it is

the first two are hypos. Third looks to be normal, possible hypo. How are the belly checkers? Normal or faded? The last looks to be a het for bloodred. Is its belly white? It has a lot of red.

I'd say the person that produced those put butter corns in their family trees. The first two are very much like rosy rats (keys corns), but have too much yellow (caramel marker). Last one could be a bloodred. Show us the bellies of all of them. I'm betting that three (if not all four) have aberrant (atypical) belly patterns.

Here are belly pics of the first two - in the same order. I don't have the other two snakes anymore, just sold them, but they did have bold, black belly checkering.

Thanks for the information!

Classic bellies for keys' corns (rosy rats). Very nice specimens. Some are hypo genotypes and some are not, but you can expect to see much of the patterns and colors of the parents, if you breed these to anything else.

Wow - fast reply!

Any ideas what would be a good cross with these, or should I breed these to each other?

Thanks again, Don

I always think it best to stay in the family. Rosy rats are such beautiful animals, I think it's a shame to go outside the family tree.

I was eager to see if your last snake was a bloodred. Do you have a pic of its belly?

No, I don't. I just sold him. He did have dark, bold, black checkerboard markings on his entire belly.

Thanks again for your help.

I was planning on breeding the rosies together, but was intrigued by your comment about their pattern and color showing up well in out-crosses. I agree, though think I'll keep that pair together.

Here's a pic of my kisatchie female. I'm looking for a male to pair up with her.

She's gt a little zig on her! Pics aren't real good, she's one of my favorites.

This is another pic of the male that was looking to be potential bloodred.

Funny you mentioned the "Rosy Rat" look to those first two,........even before the entire picture was done being displayed on my screen, that is EXACTLY what came to my mind as well!, I had some KILLER examples of "Rosies" some years ago. I only wish to heck I still had them now!..GRRR!
