Sand in eyes?

platinumtlc Jan 29, 2008 11:32 AM

My collared is having problems keeping sand out of her eyes. Everytime this happens, I rinse them out and then take out the sand and lay paper towel down. Once paper towels are down, she's back to normal, all jumpy and active. Then when I think she's fine again, I put the sand back in only for her to get sand back into her eyes. What should I do?

Hi, I'm not real sure if your saying she gets irritated eyes when on sand , or if some just gets in.

If mine get a small amount in there, you can see them kind of bulge their eye out (looks crazy) but this is their way of pushing out anything in the eye that is bothering them.

How is she getting so much in there? Is it wet where she sleeps?
Maybe like I said up top sand just irritates her eyes and she has a reaction to it.

Sandy eyes are also a sign of resp infections, but your saying this corrects itself when you take her off the sand?

Well all I can say if everything is normal and she's healthy in every other way until you put sand in the tank, then I would suggest maybe using something else in there. That would be your choice.

Hope shes fine now!

I meant sand gets in her eyes when she's on sand. And she also does that bulgy eye thing that makes me think her eyes are going to pop out. Once I either clean them out, or she's NOT on sand, she's completely back to normal and bouncing and jumping around, its weird. I almost feel like she's gotten used to paper towel substrate and this is her way of telling me she doesn't want sand anymore! I'm so confused, should I try to clean her eyes out every time this happens or let her do it herself? Or must I remove all sand and go to something else? but what?..
