My new addition

blupanther Jan 29, 2008 04:51 PM

I picked this big guy up yesterday in a trade. I've been admiring him for a while every time I went to the local shop to buy rodents. He is very docile, not cage aggresive at all.

Nice striper! Those brown and white ones are very nice.

very nice looking king. I have seen nice stuff from the breeders here but never from a pet store you got lucky.

When you say 'cage aggressive" what do you meam like snakes who dont like being picked up in the cage?

I have read that term before not sure if thats what it means

Thanks

blupanther Jan 30, 2008 08:06 PM

By cage aggressive, I was referring to some snakes having the tendency to tag you when you first put your hand in the cage, but then calming down once you pick them up. Snakes that have been in a pet store for a while where they are rarely handled and only have the lid opened to throw a live mouse in may develop this habit. That is why I was pleased about how docile he is, although cage aggression isn't a big problem with cal kings. BTW, he moved into a large sterilite container today, which he seems to enjoy much more than the 10 gallon he was temporarily housed in. He took his first meal in my care. I am hoping to pick up a female banded cal king to pair him with. I measured him at 4 ft. even.

That is a NICE male. It is kind of weird to hear you looking for a Female Banded. I have just the opposite as you do. I have a Male Banded and a Female striped that I am hoping on breeding this year. Where are you located? I am in Southern California..

Heres my Male

Here is my Female.

and here is my Second female I plan on trying to breed with the male also to see what I get.

Good luck with finding your female..

Great looking snakes. I only keep Ruthven and Mex kings not Ca kings but looking into them. Your White snake is that what they call an Aztec ?

thanks

I hope so too. I do not plan on being a big breeder at all just would like to see what I get. I have had the male for about 8 years now as a pet. He was wild caught, he came for a swim in my pool one hot summer afternoon. I live in a urban area just below some hills,so it was kind of a surprise. I just wanted to get him lucky if he is not too old..I hope your breeding goes well too.

I notice you have cockatails. We have wild ones in the area have seen regular colored types in my yards bird feeders , have seen love birds and parakeets also .

Coming from the cold in upstate NY its unusual to see birds like that . I imagined escaped pets .

rockratt Jan 31, 2008 12:23 AM

Yes I have a White Faced Male and a Albino Female. I live in southern California and haven't seen any wild cockatiels. That would be pretty cool. I did see a Bald Eagle recently that had been hit in traffic on the freeway, That Sucked. Also around my area I see a BIG flock of wild parrots almost everyday. They are not native but escapees from many years ago. If I remember correctly they are from Mexico. They are a pretty cool site to see though.
