An alligator hunter has caught one of two gators believed responsible for killing a dog and attacking two others in a retention pond beside a dog-walking trail behind a Home Depot on Jan. 13.
Rick Kramer said he and a helper captured the 8-foot, 250-pound alligator Wednesday morning in the area of the pond south of Linton Boulevard near Interstate 95. The alligator was hooked on a chicken bait Tuesday night.
He will face euthanasia, Kramer said.
Kramer is still looking for a smaller, 4-foot alligator.
One of the surviving dogs, dubbed Lucky by the animal care officers who are caring for him, was released from bite quarantine on Wednesday after he showed no signs of rabies, said Karen Buchan, community projects manager for Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control.
Up next for the new pooch is a hands-on lesson in socialization. He'll live with an Animal Care and Control employee who will pet him and feed him, Buchan said.
"He's very shy around people," Buchan said. "Just being around people ... will show him the good things about being with people."

I thought everyone learned in 6th grade science class that you can only get rabies from mammals. Why do we have people in "animal control" positions who aren't aware of this fact? Why does our government put such morons in positions of power over us? this is just sad.
