Before and After - Peach Tones

mheidka Jan 30, 2008 03:19 PM

It's so interesting to watch the sometimes subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) changes in color tone develop in thayeri from hatchling to sub-adult/adult. Here are a few of my peach tone "before and afters". The first is by far the most interesting change; he started as a rosy peach and ended up a buckskin blond.

Does anyone else have some interesting hatchling vs. adult photos they can share?

Very cool transition shots. I'll have some of my own before too long from the pair I got from you. The little male has really started to lighten up and taking on more of his mother's look with each shed. I hope he looks like her as an adult, because she is way cool!

Hey Aubrey,

Please do share updated photos of those two! I'd love to see them. That male started out with a slight bi-coloration in his scales, so it will be interesting to see how he develops.

I'd like to see how the black-striped female develops as well. She was my hubby's favorite last year and he still gives me crap every chance he gets for not holding her back .

Winter started early here in Alaska and all the adults finished their 3 month brumation last week. I will be planning on matching that Copper female (LMT16F) with a VR Moss green male (LMT15M) shortly. Finger's crossed for a great season!

I'll get some new photos of them taken when I can. I'm very glad you didn't hold that female back, she is so awesome!!

Thanks, I thought so. That tiny "dusting" of black specks on a greenish gray backround was real characteristic of the leonis I had in the 90's.

Maria,

Those are some terrific specimens.....Would you say that most of the color 'change' is due to black and grey speckling? Most all leonis phase thayeri (some MSPs) go through that ontogenetic change. It is a great thing to witness but sometimes I sure would like to see an adult with the crisp, clean colors it had when it was a hatchling.
Again terrific thayeri Maria....

Thanks, John. I was actually referring to the color change more than the appearance of speckles. I actually don't mind the speckles...esp. on the VR animals where it is more refined. It seems like most of my speckle-free leonis are either earth-toned or green.

Here are a few of my adult males that have very clean colors...

Thanks, Aubrey. If I ever decide to let either of them go I'll let you know.

That copper female will be paired up (if she accepts him) with the reduced key-holed green VR male in the first post. I'm hoping that will yield some nice reduced-patttered offspring with the potential for very clean colors as adults.

Thanks! Got my fingers crossed for this years pairing with that Copper girl. Perhaps my pair from you will get to meet some half brothers and sisters?
