Heating question

dave79 Jan 31, 2008 04:25 PM

I want to use an oil filled electric heater to heat my snake room. My question is, will a helix thermostat over ride the built in thermostat. With the built in thermostat I can't get consistent temps. Thanks

that's what i've done except with a house thermostat. you have to open up the heater and do some rewiring. basically you have to omit the internal thermostat with the after market one by bypassing it. it's easy if you know basic wiring, but wouldn't recommend it if you don't know what you are doing.

Contact Rich, reptilebasics.com

A johnson controls t-stat will do the trick, 1500 watts. It can do a night drop also.

DO NOT USE THE HELIX!! The Helix is rated for 500w.. your heater is probably 1500w.
