When do you know a female is gravid?

herbivorous Jan 31, 2008 05:18 PM

I haven't posted in quite a while, but I read the forum with some frequency. This is my first year breeding BT cribos (attempting it, anyway). My pair mated for several days starting Christmas day and running through the first week of January. So my question is, how long does it typically take before you can tell whether or not a female is gravid? She refused food last time I tried to feed her, which is a little out of character...

Hi Robert, she'll stop feeding for at least a few weeks and then go into a shed. After the shed and a few weeks or so you'll get eggs. Right now you should start to notice swelling from mid-body towards the tail. Sides along ventral surface will become more squared off than normal, kind of like a black rat snake looks in cross section. Good luck. Steve
