It might be better to use plain glycerin to lubricate the skin than a commercial lotion with more unnecessary ingredients.
A product called Biomist made by T-Rex has worked wonders for me. I've noticed huge improvements in the quality of my Phayrei's skin in very little time. I haven't used for a long period of time, so I don't know if there are any long term side effects.
I usually apply it with a cotton swab onto his legs and head. I'll let it sit for a while then mist him with warm water.

just plain glycerin? is that something you could buy in a drugstore or something? is it something you apply to the skin like lotion?
i think it's because of the heating, but my redfoot's skin has been especially dry this season, as well, even though i try to give him soaks and mist him occasionally. maybe i'll give the glycerin a try.
Yes, plain glycerin. It should be available in a drug store. It may be labeled Glycerin or USP Glycerin. I like it because it is a pure product, not greasy like oils, and is water soluble, so it can be removed easily if not needed. It also puts a lovely sheen on the shell if rubbed into it.
oh, water soluble pure product = good! i'll have to give it a shot. maybe i'll take some before and after pictures of him, like they do for ads for wrinkle creams and such.
