Finding an Aru

rewd Jan 31, 2008 10:09 PM

Hi I've been researching GTP's for sometime and I've settled on getting an Aru type. Can anyone recommend a place to get one?

I've checked many of the breeders that seemed to be often recommenced on here but they seem to have very little for sale. There is a large reptile show in Hamburg, PA in about a month but I'm hesitant to buy a GTP from a place like that. Help!

Check out Rico Walder @ signalherp.com i believe he has a male aru produced by ed bradley for sale and he has many other chondros that you might be interested in all for a very reasonable prices. The most important thing to remember when buying a GTP is to stick with captiv born and bred animals, a show like hamburg has a few chondro breeders running around, but there are many imports floating around as well. Good luck!

Exactly I'm quite determined NOT to get any imports of any kind. Thanks for the recommendation! Anyone else have any?

Have you tried looking at some Merauke types? They seem to turn out similar to CBB Arus.

check out the classifieds there.. I know Paul August just hatched out some Meraukes and has some yearlings too, though i think they are poss het albinos. :-.

You may also want to give Cathy Maynard a look up www.chondrosbycathy.com she usually has some nice stuff with good white one it.

Thanks Julian, I've got two possible aru clutches this season. One is a "pure" aru pairing from two very pretty cbb Roullie arus with great blue and white highlights. The other aru girl was bred to my poss het merauke X. All the adults in these pairings are very mellow mannered snakes and.... among the largest in my collection too.

One girl is in the nest box now, the other is off feed. I should know before too long how these pairings do.

D. Termini has an aru pairing going this year too from some very white adults.

thank you very much! the meraukes are ok but none of the pictures I have seen of them really have that very deep beautiful emerald color the arus always seem to have.

Ah, but the meraukes DO have that incredible emerald green too, except for the distribution of the white spotting the arus and meraukes look VERY similar. Even the shape of their heads and overall larger size are quite similar. Definitely the dispositions are both very nice and babies can be pretty hard to get started due to their non-aggressive nature.

I do believe that the arus that have been captive bred tend to have nicer white that the captive bred meraukes I've seen. Both have nice blue highlights. The girls of both locales have lightened up their green color though while being bred with a leaning toward hormonal blue.

I beleive I have a sibling to Ed Bradley Aru on Rico's site. It's been an outstanding animal for me. Solid eater, beautiful blue dorsal.
