Strikes/coils but doesn't eat????

tristan Feb 01, 2008 02:20 PM

Hi everyone,

I have an 07 female pin that strikes and coils around her food (live or f/t) but when I check back 10 minutes later, she hasn't eaten it.

When I first got her it would take about 2-4 tries until she eats it... then there was a period where she would strike and eat on the first try... but last night I tried 4 times with a f/t rat fuzzy but no success.

Why doesn't she eat it after she's striked/killed her prey?

Has anyone else had this experience? If so, do you have any advice to get her to eat on her first strike and coil?

Thanks

Just leave it alone for a while and see what happens. If it is dead then it can't hurt your snake. You can leave it in there with him for an hour or 2. If he strikes and coils then chances are he will eat it, it may just take a while.

thanks for your reply. that's what i typically do. if she hasn;'t eaten it after 30 minutes i put the rat under a heat lamp for a minute and then offer it to her. she then strikes and coils at it.

normally it takes two tries, but i did this about 4 times last night before i gave up.

i also make sure that she's in a quiet place so she feels comfortable.

i'll try leaving it in there for a couple hours, but i think that if she hasn't eaten it after 30 minutes (by then it's cold), then she probably won't eat it anymore. but it's worth a shot.

can anyone else offer some advice?

just leave the critter alone.
if you feed at night, don't check again until morning.
keep checking like that and it's gonna think it'll never get a moment alone in peace to eat. just feed , slide back in the rack , hit the lights , and stay the bleep away !

good luck , ck
