My Burm is all stopped up...

athos_76 Aug 26, 2003 11:03 PM

Anyone know how I can get my Burm to poop? Shes been fed six times in 2 months, and she hasn't pooped yet. I tried a warm water soak and she pooped the white part and peed but no poop. I'm getting worried about her, but she acts normal...real active like she has always been

A constipated burm will usually defecate easily during or after a warm bath. Just plunk him/her in the bathtub and massage the rear section. Be careful about water temperature and make sure its only lukewarm, not hot. 5 or 10 minutes (or as long as you and the snake want) and it should leave you a nice surprise shortly after. Be prepared, it may even be IN the tub.

Thanks... thats what I thought I should do....I guess she just needs a little help along. And with the amount of feedings shes had, it probably will be a nice surprise....hehe

Sorry, my attention was diverted. I just read your question. A bath is a good solution to constipation and so is activity in general. If you let her roam around for a little bit on the floor that will probably stimulate her. What you also want to look at is why she is constipated to begin with. Constipation is a symptom of low humidity and/or high temperature. High temperature, ironically, can occur when the cage temps are cool and the snake stays on the warm side all the time. Making sure your humidity levels are appropriate (over 70 at minimum, over 80 their sheds are very good) and that she has a gradient where she can thermoregulate as she digests are two good ways to avoid this. Another two ways to avoid constipation is by waiting to feed again until after she defecates ( a normal evacuation comes about 4 days after eating so it should work out perfectly even for young Burms) and to let her exercise regularly.

Well, I woke up this morning, and... there was this smell.... Something like you smell at a cow pasture... So I took a look around...and what do I see?
My burm finally let loose...Lucky for me, she decided not to go in her hide box for once... And let me tell you... It is definitely 7 feeding worth...
But all she needed was some exercise and a little massage...
