BOA/PYTHON BAN INFO

Snakesatsunset Feb 02, 2008 02:39 PM

Here is something you all need to look at and take action. Feds and fish and wildlife are trying to ban all boa and python species to be imported and interstate transport. That means whatever state you are in that is where you can buy or sell from. Anything else would be illegal. Whether you are a hobbyist or business this will be a problem. For example on the business side many people will get out due to the fact that they are restricted to selling to customers within a state. As time goes that will affect the quality of animals and at that time affect the hobbyist itself. There are many more examples and I am sure many of you can figure that out real quick. And if this law is pass what will stop the feds and fish & wildlife to do the same to all reptile species. The link below is a link to the F & W proposal. Take a look at it.

http://www.pethobbyist.com/sitenews/index.php?/archives/202-Feds-Move-To-Ban-Pythons-Boas.html

And after you read that and think how it really can affect you and the whole hobby please take time and leave a comment with F & W. Let them know what you think about the proposal, why it would affect you and the hobby itself.

Here is the link to leave a comment for F & W. Follow the link below. After you click on the link on the bottom right of the page you will see Add Comments and click on the yellow circle and follow the instructions.
WHEN WRITING BE PROFESSIONAL!!!!! NO FAXES OR EMAILS, THEY DO NOT ACCEPT THEM.

http://www.regulations.gov/fdmspublic/component/main?main=DocketDetail&d=FWS-R9-FHC-2008-0015

Please take this matter of importance and not a joke like most of the proposal F & W usually do. Send as many comments as possible as you like but use different names and info. And also forward this email to as many people you know that have a reptile. And do remember your comments have to be in by April 30, 2008. All the comments help. Thanks for your time.

The instructions for submissions say specifically they will NOT accept submissions via email or fax, as well as anonymous comment submissions.
MAKE SURE YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS, IF YOU INTEND TO COMMENT.
If they are providing an email address, it's probably just a data net and it in no way benefits the cause. I'm sure they'd like you to erroneously believe your comment was read and considered. However, it would be nothing more than a ruse to eliminate as many comments as possible.

You can submit comments via here.

http://www.regulations.gov/search/index.jsp

Type RIN 1018– in the "comment or submission" field and then click on the submit comments, directly at the document link. (It says you can submit comments this way) Just be sure you click the correct one. It always comes up as the second document when I do this.

Directly taken from the context of the proposed ban:

"Instructions: We will not accept
e-mail or faxes"

This is the direct link to the proposal (most of it is on page 2):

It also says you can submit your comments directly through their link, if you do not provide all of your information it will not be accepted.

Here is that section

Yes and it says follow the instructions where the first sentence says no emails or faxes will be accepted. I wouldn't be this petty typically, but we are dealing with a serious issue and every letter counts.

Here's what I think...First, I think it would be a good measure not to ASSUME your comments will be read or considered if sent electronically. What about all those missing White House Emails? What about all the electronic voting machine issues?

Second, I think a physical -- I can see, I can feel, I can touch, "boy these boxes are heavy and there sure are a lot of them" route is much more effective way to go, in getting the point across.

Just my 2 cents.

Just do both to add to their process burden
Any serious plans of being heard should be done by Following Simple Instructions.

I normally wouldn't be irritated myself, but where in what I posted did I say to send an email or a fax? What I provided was one of the 2 accepted methods of submitting a comment. It is not an email, it is not an email service, it is not a fax, it is infact a comment section. (which is said in the document to be one of the methods to use) So if you do feel the need to become petty by all means do so.

I don't have a problem with what you said. Yes, I did get it.
I personally feel a hard copy is a good idea, along with an electronic submission. As I stated, just don't have a lot of faith in the government doing what it says it will do.
Just a difference in opinion.

I completely agree having a hard copy is a good idea (can't have faith in a Government that is broken on so many levels), I will be trying to get one sent out myself in the next week after I speak with a couple local herp shop owner friends, and will also be signing up to pijac this week, but sent what information I had on hand through the comment portal.
