Mazuri Tortoise Chow for BD

aztlano Feb 02, 2008 04:14 PM

I heard, do not remember where, that someone was using Mazuri Tortoise chow mixed in with their regular food. As anyone heard of this and know if it would be good or bad to use? We have two BD's and a Leopard Tortoise. So far we have had great resultls using a combination of Mazuri and fresh and dried greens/grasses with our tortoise. With our BD's we feed 95% fresh greens and fruits with cockroaches for insect prey. The other 5% is BD pellets and that is only when we are gone on vac. Our local feed store is ordering us Mazuri fed but the min. amount is more then our little tort. will eat any time soon. That is why I am asking about giving our BD's a pellet with their regular food.

Thanks,

Aztlano

If fed in the same portions as the regular bearded dragon pellets, don't see it will be any worse than using pellets... along with regular fresh greens and insects. It really depends on the actual make-up of the tortoise diet. Too high Vitamin A or Phosphorus isn't good for bearded dragons.

Will try it today. Most of what I've read about tortoises is that they are even more sensitive to vit A and improper Phos/Cal ratios then Beardies. The food is basicly ground up grasses. I will see if they will even eat it.

In the March 2008 "Reptiles" magazine they have an article about using the mazuri tortoise diet on carrot-tailed chuckwallas. It seems to work for them.
