henkeli and exo terra fogger questions

darkstalker669 Aug 27, 2003 12:20 AM

hello, i just got my henkeli today, and i absolutely love him!!! damn, what a cool lizard... anyway, i am using an exo-terra fogger, but i didn't want to buy a waterfall, mainly because it does not use very much water, and the fogger uses a cup an hour. so i need some ideas as to how to use the fogger efficiently, without leaving it exposed where Gooch could get hurt. please post back with some ideas, i would really appreciate it. last night, before i had him, i just put in a tupperware with no cover, and there was a nice layer throughout the tank - today i used the same tupperware, but what i did was staple screen (the kind on windows) over the lid, and put the lid on. basically its a tupperware with a screen over it. i notice much much less fog than last night is coming through the tupperware. i also tried a normal lid with just holes or slits, and that also did not work... i really need some ideas, because im not around enough to fog him 4 times a day, and plus, the fog looks REALLY cool (when its working correctly) so please post back asap. thanks!

try placing it on top of the tank and letting it go downward. with ,y fogger i just place it in the tank on a ledge and it worked out ok. use demineralised water or else you will be cleaning the lens a lot. congrats on your henkeli.

the thing is that there isn't much air flow in the tank, so there isn't much fog coming from the container. i mean, if i barely blow into the tank, the fog goes everywhere, but if i don't the fog is very minimal. and the thing is that i dont want to leave the top open because Gooch could get hurt. Would it be a bad idea to have artificial air flow in the tank? i was thinking i could hook up a small cpu fan and keep it atop the cage. would that be a bad idea? and if so, do you have any other ideas? also, will gooch dring from a water dish or only from the sides of the tank, how often should i feed him, and how many crix? i put about 5 in there today, dusted with calcium stuff, and i dont know if he ate any of them. how many should i put in at once? i have an 80 gallon tank. also, you can contact me via e-mail darkstalker669@hotmail.com or on AIM popctrlgenocide. thanks a whole lot, i really appreciate the help.

putting a fan on your tank is a good idea, i do it with all my tanks nightly and in the morning. you don't want your tanks to have restricted airflow and get stagnat air that can cause mold and mildew. to the best of my knowledge, leaftails don't drink out of bowls, only off either glass and plants. try feeding your gecko every other day.what do you have for hiding place in there? go looking for the crickets if you are worried. also try dusting the crickets twice and then giving no dust.

ok, so i decided to go with the idea of the fan, which is working out pretty well. i have a cpu fan self-wired to a 9v battery, and the fog is now absolutely amazing. the whole tank is nice and foggy, and Gooch seems to be diggin it. my next question, though, is can it become too foggy or too humid in his tank? it looks really nice, and now i dont have to worry about the humidity in there, but i would like to be sure that it's not gonna be bad at all for that fog to be on all the time. also, im still not sure if he has eaten crix yet... is there something else i should try, or is he probably just eating them at his own lesiure? thanks!!!

i think that it can get to wet in the tank , remeber uros like high humidity but they need good ventilation also if the humidity goes down a bit or fluctuates that is normal. they cant live in 100 percent humidity all the time, as they might develop skin problems in constant high humidity, low airflow enviroments.i put a fan on mine to circulate the air in daily. try grasshppers and adult winged cricekts at night and watch with a red bulb for a feeding response. it sometimes takes a few days to gety use to the tank to want to eat.

you see, what i'm putting on there (the cpu fan) is toward the back of the tank on top of the lid, which is the screen/grate material. this causes curculation in the tank...e.g. as opposed to stagnant fog all the time, just kinda hanging low, it is sort of swirling and moving around... there is a lot of the fog coming out of the top of the tank and circulating around the tank. it seems like this is enough ventilation, am i wrong?

uroplatusguy Aug 30, 2003 07:49 PM

that seems to be enough ventilation. do you keep a towl over the top to keep humidity in?

darkstalker669 Aug 31, 2003 03:30 PM

no, i use eco-earth and forest floor, both keep in alot of humidity
