I have a gravid 6 yr old RTB and was doing a regular cleaning and noticed her throat was very swollen. I didn't see any mucus or puss comming out of her mouth but I haven't opened her mouth to verify due to her being gravid. I'm worried that it may be mouth rott. Could anything else cause this type of swelling around her face? Her temp in her cage and in the room is perfect and I've never had any problems with her before. I will be taking her to the Vet this week, but wanted to see if anyone has any ideas as to what this could be.

could be a form of mouth rot. or maybe a hair got in its tube and caused an infection.

Mine did that not too long ago and the vet said she was just getting ready to shed. A few days later she was fine.

Yes, they do get a kind of jowlish look with excess skin in the area of the throat before shedding. I think it's retained water.

Whenever mine are preparing to shed, they also get the loose-jowels and folds of skin around the head and sides of the head. I always tell my family it's normal and if they suddenly look old, wrinkly and tired ( not to mention moon-blind and dull!)... it's perfectly ok! ;p
