Send your official comments to the fish and wildlife service (FWS) at regulations.gov at this link. If you click the view document and pick the second icon you can read a text version of the proposed regulation, at the bottom are specific questions FWS are interested in.......

“There is a grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that whilst this planet has gone on cycling according to the fixed laws of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.” -C. They already passed a law here in florida making it difficult to own retics and burmese pythons and nile monitors. You must post a 10,000 dollar bond and prove 1000 hrs. experience to obtain a permit. It's the same permit needed for venomous reptiles. It
is in response to infestation of the florida everglades
with pythons. They are more common than many native species now, and have even been found eating large alligators. Cape Coral florida is also overrun by nile monitors which are eating peoples cats and dogs. These laws are warranted here, but a outright ban on ALL pythons and boas is ridiculous. That would inclued ball pythons, on of the mainstays of the reptile industry!

The county in North Carloina that we live in has passed an exotic animal ordinance that prohibits boids over eight feet in length. This was done as a reaction to a boy being attacked by a Tiger. There was a similar bill in the works for the entire state, but as far as I know it has not passed. Today it is Boas and Pythons at issue. Tomorrow it could be milks snakes!

Thanks!

Happy to support the Boidae guys, not sure what got the Feds knickers in a twist but I have to ask myself -isn't this at the discretion of every State? A Fed ban is all-encompasing and honestly, I just don't see a wholesale nationwide slaughter of every Boidae on the day the reg is enacted!
Ill conceived, knee-jerk and short sighted are some terms that jump to mind.
Is this the result of pressure from the Humane Society or are there enough data points to prove that Boidae are actually that destructive and life threatening??
Hey Zack, your 2 foot anthill pythons are deadly and have to be euthanised....and you won't be compensated.

I really can't believe the Federal Gov't would even take on the issue!

Perhaps it is time for us to band together and form an organization to protect our rights the way the NRA and SEMA do for gun owners and auto enthusiasts, respectively. I personally am no good at starting organizations, but I would pay dues to support the cause.

An interesting side note: My girlfriend and I were almost attacked by a pack of dogs today. I don't just mean alot of barking, I mean these dogs acted like they had rabies and were tearing through their fence. We made it past them and got to the top of the hill and were about to make a loop back to our house when we were confronted by a doberman and a rottweiler who were NOT fenced in. So we were caught between those two and the mongrels behind us. We went back the other way and made it past the other dogs again before they could get through the fence. I have never seen dogs this violent before, including once when I actually was attacked.
So, the question is: do you think if we would have been attacked by a half dozen mutts that anyone would have made a move to ban the ownership of dogs? Of course not. Dogs are mainstream. They're mans best friend. And snakes are the devil!
We're fighting the forces of ignorance.
