crickets in rubbermaids

DMD87 Feb 04, 2008 03:06 PM

Can they climb the sides, Im planning on buying some beardies or a pair of frilleds ,im going to buy a lot of crickets at the show im going to and am just wonderingif rubbermaids with lids make good cages, also as far as gut loading i figure potato, apple orange carrot and zuccini slices with the flukers cricket feed sprinkled on it would be a good way to gut feed them . just wondering if my plan sounds good.

Hello. First off let me say that variety of healthy nutrients is key to gutloading your crix to benefit your herp. But you probobally already know that. I make my own gutload so cannot comment on that. Collard greens are great as they do not mold up easily just kind of dry up,crix love them and they provide moisture and pack lots of calcium. Carrots also do not mold easily. If your going to go the potatoe route may I suggest sweet potatoe. Much more nutritious then regular potatoe and lots of vit a which is essential for proper eye development.
Bug stop is a teflon based paint product that is the next best thing since sliced bread. Just paint it around the edges of your container and no need for a lid as the crix cannot crawl past it.
This will help keep your crix well ventilated as they easily build up too much moisture with a tightly secured lid especially if feeding fresh fruits/veggies. Just make sure crix cannot jump higher then your container.

hey thanks for the info I didnt even think about using sweet potatoes instead that works better though as those are the only potatoes i eat.ill have collards and other leafy greens for my beardies so all that stuff will make it easy to use for the crix.
