"Glow" question

johnavilla Feb 04, 2008 03:22 PM

Is the glow ever subtle? Also is the glow a sign of ovulation or gravidness? I have a female that has put on a lot of weight this winter (just stopped feeding a few weeks ago) and has lightened slightly but I don't feel any eggs. It is possible that I am being too gentle in palpating though.

I have girls that haven't glowed (glown neither of those looks right). I'm sure there are some that have been subtle that I just didn't notice as well. I don't think anyone has pinpointed the actual point in which they start glowing - but it's usually before ovulation up until somewhere between prelay shed and laying. My personal uneducated guess is that it is when their follicles reach that point where they decide to either commit them for eventual fertilization or absorb them. But what the hell do I know - perhaps someone with an ultrasound or more experience could give a more better explanation.

an ultrasound.... Ahhh... someday! someday!

That makes me laugh--
any local breeders that decide they need to ultrasound thier snakes- i'll be out of vet school in a few years and i'll have my own ultrasound machine and i'll need the work. lol

I have seen girls 'glow' like that for years- NEVER once thought anything of it either- lol.

just the normals i had as pets in highschool- and some of the ones we have now-- who'd a thought!

My big girl had a significant "glow". She started about 2 weeks before ovulation. After ovulation she went back to normal.

Thanks for the replys. I've seen this girl lock up about 5 times since late november and aside from the weight gain and a slight fading I'm not seeing (or feeling) anything that would indicate eggs. I'm starting to get a little frustrated. In the last few weeks she's stopped hissing at me when I pick her up. After three years of hissing does that sound any alarms? Grasping at straws here.

I would feel pretty confident with 5 lockups, but would continue to place the male with her. If she's gravid he wont be interested anyway. What is her weight and did she breed last year? The only one I had up to size last year took the year off. This year I have 4 that are up to size and have had lockups with all but 1 of them. One is a spider female X pastel male (bumblebees!!!)My mojo male bred the rest of the girls. Cross your fingers for me and good luck to you!!!

right now she is just shy of 2000 grams. In oct she was around 1200-1300 grams. Even with all of that weight she isn't lumpy and I don't feel eggs. At the same time, I haven't been power feeding her by any means, 2-4 mice a week. She did not breed last year.
