snake81 Feb 04, 2008 03:26 PM

Hey you all i am new around here.
this is my 2 years old 4ft female gopher snake.
as you can see she is much brighter then most "normal" gophers I’ve seen.
can anyone tell me her origin and morph?
and i would also love to hear what you think of her.

That looks to be a Sonoran gopher. I'm guessing that it is from the eastern part of it's range because of the pattern (possibly west or south Texas?), but it is just a guess. It is a very good looking snake! Do you have a pair or just the one? Here's one from near El Paso.

yes, i do have a pair.
here is my male. he is bigger then her (about 5ft) after shedding.

those are both very nice animals! I'll bet they would have some great looking babies.

i sure hope so.
for some reason we haven't got allot of them in the Israeli reptile community the last few years.

I've always wondered what the availability of relatively common North American snakes is in other places. For example corns and bulls and kings--- are they available in any quantities? What are the prices? Those gophers you have would probably go for about $35-50 as babies. More for adults of course.
I'm sure that Europeans would be amazed to see leopard ratsnakes go for hundreds of dollars over here. What is available in the Israeli herp market? How common are Pituophis? I would certainly encourage you to breed those.

corn snakes and king snakes are very common and the prices at breeders (the stores set their own prices) are about 65$ - 120$ for baby's, depending on the morph. also king snakes tend to be a little more expensive then corn snakes.
as to Pituophis, gophers and bulls used to be more common in the 90's but doe to low demand they stopped importing them. these days they are not that common tho not rare baby gopher or bull cost about 100$.
pine snakes aren't very common today and finding a pair is very difficult.
