Ne Ideas?

Dydy4jamaica Feb 04, 2008 06:29 PM

does ne one know where u can get a nice looking wallpaper of grasslands or some kind of picture that resembles a tegus natural habitat? im gettin a baby tegu and im trying to make the enclosure as close looking to its natural habitat as possible. since its a baby the enclosure would only be temporary, 55 gallon long tank. i have in mind wat the setup is gonna be in there im jus curious if there r ne wallpaper for the background or am i gonna have to "stitch" up my own in Photoshop.
also does ne one have ne idea if a reptisun 10.0 would be to much for a tegu or should i use two of those bulbs to be safe?

I would say most of the chain pet stores have those sort of backgrounds, petco, petsmart, any of those places.

I just thought I'd mention, though, that these backgrounds would be purely for your enjoyment. The tegu won't be affected by whether or not you have a background of a rainforest behind it, it will be purely decorational.

Just thought I'd throw that out there since there are people who think that these pictures in the cage will fool the lizard into thinking it's in its natural habitat.

Dydy4jamaica Feb 04, 2008 09:19 PM

yeah it would jus be for decoration only just to make it look like kind of natural. i kno the tegu wouldnt really fall for that tho. lol

holygouda Feb 04, 2008 06:53 PM

"ne one", "u", "r" Come on, dude. Don't type like a retard.

I see those paper background things at all sorts of reptile shops. Hopefully you are using it for your own personal desire, because I'm pretty sure your tegu won't give a crap about the piece of paper on the back of the cage. Worry about whats inside the enclosure and how it meets the tegus needs instead.

About your reptisun 10.0 bulb being enough. You need to figure that out yourself. We have no clue where you are placing the bulb, how close the spot is to the bulb, or anything for that matter. Set up the cage and use a temp gun to figure out the temperature. Adjust as necessary. I'm pretty sure you won't need two bulbs though. Make sure you keep the humidity up or you will run into all sorts of problems.

And I hope for the tegu's sake that the "temporary" 55 gallon tank does not become its forever home. Plan on building something sizable around 4'x8' so the tegu can roam around.

I'm with your, Gouda. The Tegu will most certainly be smarter than this fool. Hopefully, reading this forum will give him a better grasp of the English language. But, somehow I doubt it...

Dydy4jamaica Feb 04, 2008 11:44 PM

Dude how old are you? dont you think that only insulting someone seeking advice is immature and moronic? noone here is a friggin expert unless u have a degree in herpetology all of you only speak from either hear say or what worked for you in your experience.

Dont insult someone that only sought out advice and help to make sure his pet gets the best.

MadAxeMan Feb 05, 2008 07:09 AM

You can't actually get a degree in herpetology as there really isn't one. Not that it would matter much anyway as while knowledge is helpful it doesn't compare to actual experience which you will find here to a point. That light bulb you're buying was invented by a guy with a 6th grade education (just one of many examples) You also aren't going to get much respect by calling people "dude" either. Don't they have a tegu forum?

Dydy4jamaica Feb 04, 2008 11:34 PM

i was only typing that way for computer ease, u have to be a real anus to nitpick before u give out advice. the reptisun is the uv and it said the minimum distance should be 20" so im not even gonna have it nemore than that since the enclosure is only 18/20" high and there should be at least 6 inches deep subrate for it to burrow. so if its resting on top of the tank it would be about 12/14" away. and when it gets older im giving it more than the minimum size for an adult to roam around and stretch out. i have done my home work on the size and needs, my only concern was the uv.

Why insult someone if all they asked for was help and advice?

holygouda Feb 05, 2008 12:02 AM

For computer ease? It's not that difficult to add a few extra letters to a word in order to form a coherent sentence. Perhaps you should stop being so lazy? If you want people to show you respect, you should earn it. Since typing is the only way of communication here, maybe you should show us some respect and type sentences that make sense. We shouldn't have to decipher your cryptic, lazy typing.

Haha. You called me an anus. Nice.

About your bulb. I think a reptisun is completely unnecessary, but if you want to spend that much money on a light bulb, go for it. You can read the box for distances and whatever else as much as you want, but you will only know if it will suit your needs by testing it out for yourself. Just be careful with really high wattage bulbs because they will burn your Tegu. You say you have done your homework...best of luck to you.

> > > i was only typing that way for computer ease,

Then maybe you need a new computer, my PC doesn't have any problems displaying proper English grammar. Or could it be that your keyboard was made in Jamaica?

I've passed over several of your posts in various forums, refusing to divulge my hard earned knowledge to someone that seems so lazy.

Play another Milli Vanilli album and try it again.

'for computer ease.'

That is truly pathetic. If you talk/act/type like an imbecile, people will think you to be one.

At least if you would have come back saying that English is not your first language, or just that you have trouble spelling-people have no problem with that. That at least, we would respect and understand.

We are here to help. But, when you act like a snot-nosed punk, we will treat you as the buffoon that you are.

robyn@ProExotics Feb 05, 2008 12:33 PM

you guys are a bunch of out of touch old poops : )

this is the way most of the youth do their "keyboarding" in 2008. if you are over 25, you are probably out of touch.

i complain about today's horrible music, Jonas Brothers, Rhianna, Neyo, Soulja Boy etc, how awful it is, and Chad reminds me "it isn't for you dummy". he is right, it isn't for me.

and now the kids type like Prince has for 25 years : )

old fuddy duddies.

as for UV, with a proper setup, it just isn't needed. a special bulb MAY help the animal look better visually, to the keeper, but it isn't needed for a healthy animal, given a healthy setup.

haha Robyn,

My poop isn't old!

I just love the fact that it takes 10 times as long to make sense of a small paragraph in the "2008 youth" lingo.

By the way, I live in Colorado now! I've been meaning to take a trip down to PE for a visit but I don't have a car so its proving to be quite difficult. One of these days though!

Im 21 and my head wanted to explode when i read a short sentence of that crap. You wont get any advice when people think your an idiot. By saying that you cant be an expert without having a degree in herpetology, degrees dont mean crap, im in the military and the officers we get from ROTC are idiots until they have EXPIERIENCE, and even then they are still officers..hahaha. I can think of a couple people I would consider experts that as far as I know dont have a degree, Steve Irwin, I dont know if Frank Retes does but I think of him as an expert. Their are people on this forum that have been keeping and breeding reptiles longer than either of us have been alive so show them some respect...

old poops....hahahahaha now honestly who calls people old poops...

You're absolutely right, Robyn. The majority of my generation has terrible taste in music. I can't stand the music everybody listens to. Give me some blues, some rock, some jazz, even some country, but anything but pop or rap/hiphop. Thankfully, there are a few good artists keeping that good old vibe alive. John Mayer (his new stuff, at least) is helping keep that Hendrix and SRV type sound around, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are just keeping that funk rock sound that they've been doing since the 80's. Dave Matthews Band is a favorite of mine, too.

And as for the IM language, I can't stand reading a message that is written in that manner. Sometimes I'll use it while IM'ing with a buddy, but never when I'm typing something that multiple people will be reading. *Sigh* What is our country coming to?

Cheers,
Ryan

I've not yet hit 20 and my primary band plays music that sounds like it's from the 70's, 60's, even some songs that sound right out of the 50's. That's when rock music really had soul. It's a great niche market too. Since there aren't many bands doing it, and we do it pretty well, we get a lot of publicity. Surprisingly, the majority of our fan base is made up of people ranging from 15-25 years of age, and they come out by the hundreds. It's nice to know that we are in good company I just get really sick of listening to most of the new music, but if you really know where to look, you can find some really cool stuff.

On the extreme end of the spectrum, I've had to study B.C. music history (mostly ancient greece) for my music teacher certification program. There's a reason you don't see people trying to replicate that music.

holygouda Feb 06, 2008 01:34 PM

I appreciate the fact that clearchannel decides what music I will like, and when I will like it. I am so grateful that they play the same songs (they forced me to like) over and over again so that in the 15 minutes I don't hear the song and begin to miss it, they bring it right back. Then they put it in commercials so I hear it non stop all day. I love the pop music clearchannel blesses me with. Untalented artists and juvenile, empty lyrics that have no meaning or sincerity are not given the credit they deserve.

I don't understand what you guys are complaining about. The new music is awesome and so is American Idol. We are so lucky.

haha
