Fake Plant Question

TBONE21 Feb 04, 2008 06:40 PM

I am wondering... For cages I that I need a lot of plants would it be safe to get fake plants from a craft shop and boil them or something to make sure they are clean? Just asking because of the cost of reptile fake plants at a pet store.
All advice or pictures would be great.... I have alot of tererriums and am soon to be probably getting a caiman hatchling and need to make hiding spots too...

I've gotten a ton of the fake plant vines from places like Michaels and cut them into smaller pieces for critter keepers. I just clean them first and they're fine. Unfortunately, I can not find my camera at the moment so I have no pictures. Just make sure you check for pieces of wire sticking out and take care of them. =)

Michael's prices on Cholla wood were excellent too. Anything you get that isn't plastic, you can always wrap in aluminum foil and bake in the oven for a bit to kill anything that could be on it. (decorative rocks, driftwood, grapevines, etc.)

Any of the fake plants would be fine, just watch for bare wires, like he said, and keep an eye out for any bits of dried hot glue, I've seen them on fake plants from time to time.
