heating and plastic

labialpitstop Aug 27, 2003 04:04 AM

Hello! I am considering putting one of my snakes in a plastic (tupperware) container. They seem to be very popular and fairly safe. My only hesitation is heating. How do I keep my snake well heated? My main concern would be that the heating element would overheat and cause nasty plastic fumes to poison my snake. That is the last thing I want, and that they want for that matter! Thanks for your help.

When I use plastic shoebox or sweaterbox type containers for caging, I always use them in conjuntion with a rack system. I use FlexWatt heat tape for heating at one end of the container to provide a thermal gradient and use proportional thermostats to control them. I've never had a problem. If you try to use something like heat tape without some sort of controls, such as a thermostat, you are asking for trouble.
