WRONG SEX. WHAT SHOULD I DO??

Jungleboas Feb 05, 2008 06:57 PM

I bought a Ghost Boa a while ago from a reputable breeder. I raised it slowly for 2 years and tried to breed it. It turned out to be a female. What can I do? I just emailed the breeder. But did I wait to long? Should I ask for my money back? Can I? If he won't help me out what can I do??

Thank so much

Samantha K

Unfortunately, I feel that you waited too long. I always sex my boas within days of receiving them. While this person might help you out in some way, I do not feel they are responsible to do anything at this point. Take it as a lesson learned and look on the bright side - a female ghost is probably more valuable than a male ghost.

One should always check the sex of new arrivals !
I allow a few weeks for the animal to settle in and then get the animal out and really look them over good.
Many breeders wouldn't have a problem correcting an issue found in this time span,2 years is way to long to approach someone about something like this.

Personally I believe your on the good end of the deal,if its not needed or wanted then just sell it

I agree too much time has gone by, not saying you are "pulling" anything but how to show it's even the same snake?

And, you ended up with a more valuable animal. Yeah, I know it sucks to lose a season since your "male" didn't perform as desired. You could make up for it by getting a yearling male this season (lesson learned and verify the sex) then next season have two litters?

I am in the same scenario. I had some one buy a jungle that turned out to be opposite sex years later. I still thinking what I should do. A couple of months is one thing but years is whole different situation.

Well after two years, I agree it's too long to really expect satisfaction from a seller. If they do anything for you now, they will prove they are an extraordinary seller, and if I were you I would buy as much from them as possible in the future if they do you this favor. You never know, and it never hurts to ask, but don't expect anything.

One of my very favorite snakes, a male, was sold as a female to my friend, by a reputable breeder. He put a whole lot of love and rats into this snake only to find out Annie was a he. He was nice enough to sell him to me when the mistake was discovered. After that we both checked every one of our snakes, which is what you CAN do. I think we all learn this one the hard way.

Had one like that last year, the seller offered another correctly sexed for shipping cost
You damn right I'll spend every penny I can there in the future.
For a move like that I feel I owe him that much LOL!!
Proof enough there are diamonds in this boa mine field
