New and looking to get some chameleons

bigguykev36 Aug 27, 2003 05:11 AM

ok, so I want chameleons. Where do I look for information on breeding, housing, feeding, and just general information. also, how many can you keep in a specific size container (ie. one Chameleon requires X amount of space). I realize that the size will differ from morph to morph, and species to species, but a general information page would be greatly accepted. Thanks!

the best idea would be to visit adchamm.com, or go to google and search for chameleons care ...

other good sites are

http://www.chameleonnews.com/index.html
http://www.animalarkshelter.org/cin/
http://www.socalreptile.com/chameleon.pdf

good luck!

right on.

The links in the last post were good ones. read those. depending on what kind you want I can furnish you with more specific links.

also, how many can you keep in a specific size container

easy answer: the answer is ONE. no more maybe less. Minimum for happiness - 2x2x3 ALL screen cage. Cant stress the screen part enough. for a panther I would go with nothing less than a 4ft tall enclosure. Basically - the larger it is - the happier they are. You will also need a UVA light as well as a UVB light.

You seem to have more arid reptiles at the present. I'd go with the veiled or Panther - as they require higher temps than a jackson as well as less humidity. They are hardy and colorful. Panthers have better color and personalities (usually) and cost a ton more.

shoot me an email if you have any questions...and be prepared to get addicted. Make sure it is ok with the gf...if you buy a cham - you'll spend more time with it than you will with her and spend more money on it than you will her.

youve already been helped well..i would also suggest going out and getting a book or two, many books have a few different types of chams so it can help you decide which you would be interested. and just follow the links the others have posted..good luck

there is a big difference in panther and veiled temps and humidity. panthers need it a little bit cooler and a lot more humid.

yes - but compared to a jackson or the four horned - also - from what I understand they are a bit less sensitive to things not "just" right for longer periods of time than the montanes.
