I'm so sad there was a fire in my gecko cabinet and I lost my favorite gecko i raised him from when he was a hatchling and got him big and strong. i think he died from all the smoke. I had to tell somebody. thanks for listening

Sorry to hear that. I don't know what I would do if I lost any of my first animals. It's a little different when you learn everything you know from raising one animal.
An ideas on what caused the fire? I assume the heat pad maybe?
Well, one thing you can do is post how you believe the fire occurred so other keepers can learn from your misfortune. I'm guessing, since you said "cabinet" you had some sort of enclosed space and the lights fell or something?

well i built a cabinet to keep all my geckos in and while i dont think thats what caused the fire it did kill the gecko because the door on it kept the smoke inside. i was using heat tape to heat the cages and had an empty cage on the shelf underneath his, the heat tape in that area was controlled by the same switch as his, i guess the peat moss in that tub got too dry and started smoldering. i dont know if there was an actual fire or just smoldering with alot of smoke. i would never expect something like peat moss to combust with just heat tape warming it.
