the sad part is, the responsible keepers are the ones that suffer when irresponsible people let Boas and Pythons loose because they got to big to handle...

if stupid people didn't insist on buying animals without doing any reasearch, there wouldn't be this problem now...

its to bad people don't want to be responsible for their animals... The local huamne society shut down last week and they had to put most of the dogs and cats to sleep because they couldn't find anyone to take care of them...

The problem of loose big pythons and big boas started in Miami and continues in Miami.

few of my neices friends have bought baby pythons only to have them "escape" in their backyards

I do think there should be a law which prevents sales of larger snakes to kids certain age as its better for the snake and for everyone

bizkit421 Feb 06, 2008 08:11 PM

don't blame the kids for the parents lack of planning... how many of those snakes sold as kids pets were bought because the parent didn't want to hear the kid whine about wanting a snake anymore and didn't look into how big the thing was going to get before they bought it? Maybe Miami is different, but I don't know many kids with enough money to buy a boa and a setup for it without their parents permission first...

What money retic baby pythons were at one time being sold for 20 to 30 dollars and as far as proper enclosure this is Miami a screened backyard enclosure or inexpensive plastic bin in backyard patio or garage is what they use.

Any kid could go to a pet store buy one and set it up than it gets to big ,eats to much, bites them and its let go in backyard canal

I guess I forgot that most city kids don't have much in the way of supervision to keep them from doing stuff like that... None of my friends or I would have ever been able to get to a petshop without our parents knowing, let alone drag home a snake...

I'd bet maybe half the people on kingsnake had understanding parents who supported or at least tolerated their interests, and the other half snuck their first snake--bought or captured--into the house because they knew they wouldn't be allowed to if they asked!
