Male beardie questions

Lizardgirl19 Feb 06, 2008 02:34 PM

I have a 1 year old confirmed male bearded dragon who is 14" stl and I have a few questions, Iam not a first time lizard owner but Iam a first time beardie owner.

My questions: 1. is he going to get any bigger?

2. He still has a pattern, I have read that males don't have any, will this fade over time?

3. Will he ever get the really dark beard like the males I have seen in pictures?

1. I'm surprised he is only 14" total length at 1 year old. The answer to your question though is that BD's continue to grow till they are about 2 years old. But the vast majority is done in the first year. I would reevaluate your husbandry since he seems very small for his age.

2. Males and females usually have patterns that stay with them their entire life. There are patternless BD's out there but they are not common and are sold as such.

3. At only 14" perhaps her is not sexually mature enough to darken his beard yet.

I got him from a reptile show and they said he was about a year old but I think he is younger.
