Advice needed on how to raise temp

ThaDragonSlayer Feb 06, 2008 07:04 PM

I have a 6 ft long, 30 in wide, 30 in deep wood enclosure that I house my two savs in. The front part of the cage is all glass & the top is screen. Recently I encountered a problem heating the cage. I have 3 250 basking lights, 1 reptisun 5.0 compact light & 1 150watt ceramic heater. I cant get the temp in the hot spot to exceed 90 degrees. What can I do/add to give the hot spot a 20-30 degree boost in temperature?

Advice please.

Thanx in advance....

It sounds like you need to elevate your basking spot, with those kind of lights and heaters you should be able to get WELL OVER 90º. You could add some devices like rocks or caves to get your animals a place which would be closer to the heat lamps.

If you move your basking spot 4"-6" higher than it is, you should be able to raise your temps by 30 degrees easily.

I learned this trick from a forum on the ProExotics website. There is lots of good information there.

Other than that, what is the temperature in the room where you keep the animals? I keep my thermostat in my apartment at 75 all through the winter!

Thanks for the info. I try to keep the room their in at 70-75 degrees during the winter. I will try raising basking spot by 5 inches. I'm hoping this will improve the temp....

Thanx again
