What am i doing wrong???

hollowheadj Feb 07, 2008 01:15 AM

It seems every single reptile i own decides to go on a a hunger strike. I ended up giving my chameleon away to a lady who knows allot more in a hope to save it. This is so stressful for me... I just want to see these guys doing well and cant seem to accomplish that. I have a 4 month old beardie and a pair of about 9 month old collard lizards. i believe the beardie is not eating due to eating to many superworms but the collards refuse to touch anything. all the lizards have a a staple of superworms. i put a good 6 crix into the collard cage yesterday and today and none were touched. all the basking temps are what they should be at and both have uv lighting... what am i doing so wrong.

Hello,
Are your collareds wild caught or captive bred? What are the overnight lows? Sometimes it takes finding a spider, moth or grasshopper to stimulate them to eat.

Are they basking throughout the day, or sleeping more than basking?

*** FIRST, easy at home test for mites , takes a minute, get a magnifying glass, some mineral oil, baby oil, or even olive oil, and hold a collared in your palm, back against your palm, tummy up and pour some oil on it's tummy , smear it around and watch to see if you see black, tanish, reddish/ whitish little spots appear. If you see dots appear, thats your problem. These lil buggers will cause your lizards NOT to eat, not to bask, become very lethargic.

* Then you can always take atleast one lizard and have a fecal test done see if there is any worms/parasites inside.

I would also recommend switching to crickets as their staple food supply and treat superworms as a treat. I tend to feed my 4 collareds and my ancient bearded about 90% crickets and 10% superworms.

Also is there a regular supply of clean water and/or do you mist them to provide their water needs???
