We are doing exactly what they want us to do. We are fighting about something that has little to do with the matter at hand. We all know 57% of the country does not like G.W. Bush. Each person has their own reason for this. He will be out of office shortly replaced with either the first woman or first black president. I am a registered republican that will not vote this election, just like last election because I don't think there is a candidate that deserves my vote (democrat or republican).

With that said, all the fighting done below is useless for our cause. We must organize a means to fight this addition to the Lacey Act. Speaking with some good friends of mine, Chris and Sheila McQuade from Gulf Coast Reptiles we came up with a few ideas that we would like some help from others out there. First we have both agreed to help finance a full page add in REPTILES magazine that will have a pre-laid out petition to be mailed in to allow every subscriber and person that picks up their magazine on the news-stand to voice their opinion very easily. Also we would like every local show to pass out copies of these forms to every person that comes through the door and give a $2 off admission for those that fill out the form. What we would like is if there is anyone out there with legal petition work and familiar with the requirements they are asking for regarding the letters they are asking for to assist us with drafting the form for reptile magazine and shows. This form must be easy to fill out and supply the info the request. PLEASE LET'S GET TOGETHER AND QUIT FIGHTING EACH OTHER, WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS AND BEING ABLE TO VOICE THEM IS WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT THIS COUNTRY BUT LET'S STOP THIS ENCROACHMENT ON OUR RIGHTS THEN WE CAN ARGUE ABOUT OTHER THINGS.

Great ideas and great work. This is certainly something I can get behind and support, and I would encourage others to do likewise.

we have decided that $50 dollars from every animal sale will be donated to PIJAC and we are urging all other breeders to do the same.

If you do not know what PIJAC is you can check them out at

www.pijac.org

please donate and become a member

We all need to be orginized to stop this

Thanks

I doubt GW Bush, presidental canidates, or even high ranking officials know anything about this. Name calling is very counter productive. A well thought out dignified letter writing campaign and the joining and financial support of PIJAC will do the most good for herpers like myself. Take Care, Skip

"Im a Republican *wink..wink*, but when the woman or the black guy I really want to win is elected...."

Roosevelt had the depression...

Kennedy had the Cuban Missle Crisis...

Nixon had Watergate....

Reagan had the Soviets and bringing down the wall...

Carter had the Iranian hostages....

and...

G.W. Bush has Ball and Jungle Carpet pythons to worry about...

Well at least according to Josh - COME ON...GET REAL..

This is driven by idiots who through snakes out the window in Florida, or let them get loose in an apartment building to scare everyone in Michigan...thats the facts. We have our own to bame.

Josh,
Great idea, Reptile magazine is a great all herpers uniter, gecko or turtle or ect. owners and breeders might not even know about this issue, but if they see it they will support. Do you know the #s subscribe to Reptiles magazine?
I personally receive the mag and will fill it out, i'm sure a lot of other too, but I wonder if it will take the big money and lawyers of an orginization like PIJAC to really have any power. Maybe a bigger issue than this particular issue at hand is the suggestion of breeders making a donation to PIJAC, but rather it should be even the small-time nobodies like me, need to put our money where our mouths and interests are and "cut a check" however large or small that check may be to PIJAC if they are willing to stand rights and privileges for all of us. If you can spend the money to buy a reptile you can spend even just a small percentage to protect that privilege.

about petitions vs. individual letters. Will a petition with hundreds of signatures really count much more than a single letter when they finally tally up the votes? Get it right from the "horse's mouth"!

If it turns out that petitions aren't very helpful (compared to individual letters), maybe shows and herp societies could preprint lots of sheets of paper that are "sort of" form letters - already addressed to the proper agency address, and with lines for the sender's name and address, so they won't forget. Then a blank space for them to write, even if just a sentence or two. For those who don't want to think, we could provide a cheat sheet such as "I am against the Federal government regulating pythons and boas because... then give several short reasons that many people have mentioned. They can write their own, paraphrase our ideas, or copy verbatim if they want to. But it would be in their own handwriting on a separate letter, unlike the petitions. They then hand it back to the show or herp society president, and we mail them for them. Then we could get a maximum of individual letters with a minimum of expense and effort.

Maybe the ad in Reptiles could even have something similar to the "form letter" - individuals could tear it out, fill it out, and mail it in. Maybe Reptiles would kick in some space if some were purchased - who knows?

ssnakes Feb 09, 2008 07:48 AM

Kathy, I think you have the best idea here. A petition is only one piece of paper. It counts as one "letter". Once this agency begins getting thousands of letters from people with comments, even if they are form letters with a few hand-written comments, I believe that it will have a bigger impact.

If I can help in any way, please let me know.

The Executive branch doesnt create laws, the legislative branch does, and the Judicial enforces them.

GW Bush has alot more to worry about in his last 6 months than who ones a python.

If he(President Bush)really disliked snakes that much he could probably pass an Executive Order alot more easiy than he could get anti-snake legislation pushed through a democratic House of Representatives.

With this said, it is the democrates that always want to pass laws to tell free Americans what to do, such as gun laws, etc.... it is almost always the Ted Kennedy bunch behind government controlling the people through laws and taxes.

Nothing for nothing, but you sound like a political hack and/or a dummy.

No offense.

joshhutto Feb 09, 2008 01:07 AM

first off I never said Bush was behind any of this. If you take the time and go to the original post in the herp laws forum you will understand my reply. But thanks for your opinion of me anyway. Actually I don't care, just write letters opposing the ban and you can keep calling me names all you want.

Republicans make just as many laws as Democrats. There is not much differance between politicians no matter which party. It the rich (mostly republicans) down in West Palm that are pushing this crap, along with PETA.

Ohh and Josh try about 75% of the country who disaproves of W.
