Those are nice snakes. Your's may be black and not brown - but I have seen and owned many from South Carolina that are brown and cream. They vary in South Carolina as much as anywhere else.

I have seen South Carolina Eastern Kings from Edisto Island and nearby locales with thick white or cream bands on black or brown --- and I have seen South Carolina Eastern Kings from the western part of the state that are black and yellow --- much like Eastern Kings I have seen from Iredell and Catawba County, North Carolina --- closer to the mountains and piedmont - and they also look closer to the Easterns I have found here in Maryland.

It has more to do with the habitat than the geographical boundaries, in my opinion. I bet the coloration of Eastern Kings also has more to do with height above sea level, topography, vegetation, and type of soil than which state they come from.

thanks peter means alot comin from the "inner circle" ring leader. and you are correct in that they(lgg)vary greatly across their HUGE range both in ground color, size, and pattern.

Hey sweet pickle, how have you been? Glad to see you posting again. Ken.

ECC Feb 08, 2008 09:45 AM

Ken,

Thanks. Been well - just busy with the family and I have about 40 growing Chondros and Emerald Tree Boas in my collection --- so I spend more time on them than the Easterns now.

Still like Eastern Kings best though...

I hope you are well.

Looks like an Abalone shell to me. I remember a time when we used to legally snorkel for them in Malaga Cove in Palos Verdes, Ca. Ah, the good ole' days. Damn! Those things were tasty too!
